ELF fields (from electrical sources) Cancer Magnetic fields can promote cancer, according to a major new study from Italy. Researchers exposed 650 rats to a magnetic field of 200 or 10,000 mG, from before birth, for their entire lives and exposed them to a single dose of ionizing radiation when they were 6 weeks of age. The exposed rats had increased rates of mammary gland (breast) cancers, schwannomas of the heart and leukemia/lymphoma.

Research Updates on ELF fields (from electrical sources) Genes - Scientists from China investigated the genetic impact of magnetic fields from electrical sources on mouse sperm cells. They showed that exposure affected DNA methylation (which controls gene expression). (Liu, Y et al, Biomed Res Int, 2015.) Cells - Researchers from Korea investigated the effects of power-frequency magnetic fields on several different cell lines.

A collaboration of international scientists has identified health problems from low levels of EMR from electrical and communications technology. Exposure to even everyday levels of radiation from electrical and communications technologies can have harmful effects on the body — and international standards are inadequate to protect public health. These are among the conclusions of the report of the BioInitiative Working Group released in late August.
