When it comes to WiFi, are we exposed to more radiation from routers in schools or in homes? An Australian mother has succeeded in preventing the installation of WiFi in the school attended by her child, who had developed reactions to EMR, especially WiFi and Bluetooth. When her child’s school considered the installation of WiFi, she submitted a comment to the Department of Education’s website reporting her child’s sensitivity, requesting assistance to find a high school without WiFi exposure and raising issues of disability and discrimination.

Following a lawsuit against a school for exposing a student to wireless radiation, Ashland District has become the first in the US to introduce guidelines for reducing students’ exposure to wireless radiation. On August 25, the District implemented ‘Best Practices for Mobile Devices’, which states: Turn off the device when not in use. Turn wifi On only when needed.

A US education authority has agreed to accommodate a teacher with electro- magnetic hypersensitivity (EHS). Anura Lawson, a secondary teacher at Johnnie Cochran Middle School, appealed to the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) to be able to teach in a WiFi- free classroom. On 28 May Ms Lawson told a hearing of the LAUSD that, after the WiFi was turned on at school, she collapsed and was rushed to hospital for surgery and her students suffered from nose and ear and ear bleeds.

The Health Committee of the Canadian House of Commons released its report on the safety of radiofrequency radiation following public hearings. The report, published in December, recommended that: the Government fund long-term studies on the health effects of radiofrequency radiation the scientific literature be assessed for evidence of risk from this radiation, considering electromagnetic sensitivity and public policies in other countries;
