Is radiofrequency radiation a health risk?
Apparently, there are influential bodies who consider the answer to be ‘no’ and want it to stay that way.
In a recent interview with online newspaper Infosperber, German scientist Professor Meike Mevissen revealed how her research into the health effects of mobile phone radiation had been hindered by a World Health Organization (WHO) scientist
Mevissen, a Professor at the Veterinary Pharmacology and Toxicology faculty of the University of Bern, was talking about her 2025 study on the effects of radiofrequency radiation on animals, which was one of 12 systematic reviews commissioned by the WHO.
In the interview, Mevissen explained that a WHO scientist tried to interfere in this study. ‘What bothered me most was that we were constantly being told how to do our work,’ she told Infosperber. ‘At first, the WHO expert in charge of systematic reviews, who had never worked on animal studies himself, wanted to do the meta-analysis of the studies to be taken into account for us. So he wanted to choose for us which studies were even suitable for the assessment.’
Mevissen believed that a meta-analysis was not the right way to assess the data. ‘First and foremost, the WHO wanted us to lump all the selected studies together and then look at the average. However, there are different study models, studies of different animal species, genders, which are known to also cause different results. Therefore, a methodology should not be used here that does not take this into account at all.’
Mevissen stood her ground and her study concluded that radiofrequency radiation did increase the risk of cancer in test animals.
In the Infosperber interview, Mevissen revealed that she observed an official reluctance to admit any health effects from radiofrequency radiation. ‘Research is very political and we are repeatedly confronted with the attitude that there must be no health risks. This sometimes hinders our work,’ she said.
‘Mevissen is shining a light on some of what’s been going on behind the scenes,’ said Dr Louis Slesin, writing about the way the WHO’s research is being conducted.

OFF FEBRUARY is ON.
If you want to reduce exposure to wireless radiation, delete your social media apps and encourage others to do so, too.
Here are tips to help kick the social media habit:

Radiation-free internet
Did you know that the wireless modem is one of the highest sources of radiation in a home?
Why expose yourself to wireless radiation when you can have reliable internet connection without it?
Take a look at our radiation-free modem/routers that connect you to the internet and can also accommodate a landline phone if you like.
